Introduction
My name is Lexi and I'm a first year teacher at a charter school in Rhode Island: teaching third grade reading and science. I graduated ('25) from Mount Holyoke College with my BA in Political Race and Political Economy and Spanish. In my undergraduate studies, I focused on law and policy, especially immigration related law and policy (read my thesis on the criminalization and decriminalization of immigration!) I am currently pursuing my Masters in Education and am getting my teaching certificate (alternate license) through Teach for America.
My first year teaching has been a wild ride so far but I'm excited about how much I'm learning and growing! When I'm not working and am not in class, I spend a lot of time playing games with my roommates or hanging out with my kitten (Callie, look below, 6 months). I enjoy reading, writing (poetry, fiction and nonfiction), doing art (water colors, oil pastels, etc), watching movies and listening to music.
After I finish my two year commitment with TFA, I plan on either teaching upper elementary at a Dual Language school (I attended a DL school in elementary school and it really impacted who I am as a person) or getting my PhD in Sociology, focusing on immigration and Latin@/ Latin American studies.
I'm so excited to be reading and reflecting during this class :)
Con cariƱo y amor,
-Lexi
